In Egypt and Kenya, in Indonesia and Pakistan, Christians are paying with their lives for their faith in Christ. It seems today that whenever there's a regime change in a Muslim country, Islamic militants take advantage of the resultant lawlessness to attack Christians with a fury not unlike the events of the First Century AD, as portrayed in the Book of Revelation.
In those days, the first Christians were Jews, and the persecutor was the Synagogue: the established Jewish authority in the ancient world. Since that time, the Church has more than quadrupled the wrongs done to her by those early Jews, in 1500 years of anti-Semitic persecutions, shamefully done in the name of Christ. Today the main persecutor of both Jew and Christian is militant Islam. This past Thursday (Oct. 24th) our theme was "Jesus, the Bright and Morning Star", a title He used of Himself to give hope and encouragement to the Jewish-Christians of the First Century undergoing persecution by their own brethren, and how that word, given to them 2000 years ago, is a word of encouragement to Christians today under persecution!
